The title is the soundtrack
Have a Happy New Year!

Yes, you are tall

 But I come between
 You and the wall

 All you have is age
 But I make you sway
 I give you this page

 I give you contour
 I give you mystique
 And what is more

 I give us ego
 You give me substance
 And wherever we go

 I am nothing without you

Sigmund Freud's Other Favorite Song By THE WHO

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Sigmund Freud
 (1856-1939)

The  Institute of Inane Research  has discovered what
the much-maligned Godfather of Psychoanalysis
received in his 2014 Christmas stocking.

This is the third of three gifts.

The other two were featured
on the previous pages.

The Who
(1967)

I used to wake up in the morning
I used to feel so bad
I got so sick of having sleepless nights
I went and told my dad

He said, "Son now here's some little something"
And stuck them on my wall
And now my nights ain't quite so lonely
In fact I, I don't feel bad at all

The Who

Substitute...my coke for gin
At least I'll get my washing done.

I see right through your plastic mac
My fine looking suit is really made out of sack

Adan and Eva  sort of miss
A white snowy Christmas

But this year they shed—
It can be said—

All winter gear:
No snow anywhere

They frolic and feel
On slopes of steel

Instead of ski poles
They swing off steel rolls

Sloping parabolic
On gayly lit bars—quite symbolic.

The little blue boy
in the back of the bus
is the only one who is not one of us

The little boy
with his eyes in a book
is the only one with a different look

We all shout
and scream and laugh with glee
he–the bus driver’s dream–has a knobby red knee

Bespectacled
with blue jeans and a blue beret
who, amongst us, will fling it away?

2014
The little blue boy
is now a full grown man
we wash his car as often as we can

It’s okay
that he calls each of us “flipper”
it’s okay because he’s a generous tipper

Dawn's Debauchers: Verbatim Dialog

________________________________________________________________________________________________

"That's the trouble with you, Jay," Lou told him frankly.
"You're always getting into fly-paper. Take me.
I drop in the Spinning Top, pick up Tessie or Fifi,
slip them a fifty-dollar bill and that's the end of it.
I can meet them on the street with my wife,
  they never bat an eye."

"Ah, they got no feelings," Jay argued.
"What's the fun of sleeping with some
  little tart with no feelings?"

"Once you got feelings you're in trouble," Lou warned him.
"Those girls are all right. No talk. Nothing.
But what do you do? You get some dame
that's restless, mad at her husband maybe
too high class for a fifty-dollar bill so
you got to give them a diamond pin.
  Then the trouble begins."

The Edsel and Eleanor Ford House sold a painting by French artist Paul Cezanne last year

What Could Have Been My First California Paycheck...

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Had I signed a 1981 contract offer
which was forwarded from
New York to my first home
in Los Angeles.

The apartment had a spectacular view of the world-famous
HOLLYWOOD sign.

Unfortunately, that view was shared with a colony of cockroaches.

Ultimately, both jokes were "shared"
with the readers of the GO/GOOD/
GODFATHER OF MATH pages.

Between receipt of this contract offer and the one I signed with  JR,  I did receive $50 cash
from an African-American comedienne with a Jewish surname (which was not Goldberg!)
for a routine that began:

My father owned a shoe store in Harlem
and my mother was a shoplifter.
It was love at first frisk.

If She Were Still Alive, This Page Could Not Would Not Exist

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Imagine moving three thousand miles away from home...

And the first paycheck you receive is from one of your heroes.

Only to be followed by a second payment from her.

Then she takes the fruit of your labor
and shares it with the world.

If only the decimal point had leapfrogged to the right!

I had arrived in California on May 25, 1981.
Joan, if your estate requires it,
I will remove this page forthwith.
My eternal love for you is strong enough
to make Mrs. CarPeo jealous!

HOWEVER...

Pure Unadulterated John Mellencamp With No Cougar

________________________________________________________________________________________________

John Mellencamp
Mr. Happy Go Lucky
(1996)

She teaches the English at the American school

She teaches imaginary numbers
and the golden rule

She says it's hard to worry about the future
When the past is knocking at your door
Sweet mistakes and information
Have been her lovers before

This may not be the end of the world
but you can see it from here.

Pure Unadulterated Chopin With No Piano

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Kate Chopin
The Awakening
(1899)
It sometimes entered Mr. Pontellier's mind to wonder
if his wife were not growing a little
unbalanced mentally.

He could see plainly that she was not herself. That is,
he could not see that she was becoming herself
and daily casting aside that fictitious self
which we assume like a garment with
which to appear before the world.

There were days when Edna  Pontellier was unhappy,
she did not know why–when it did not seem
worth while to be glad or sorry, to be
alive or dead; when life appeared
to her like a grotesque pandemonium
and humanity like worms struggling blindly
toward inevitable annihilation. She could not work
on such days, nor weave fancies to stir
her pulses and warm her blood.

Grandma's Hands Will Resound With Applause

________________________________________________________________________________________________

It is a lazy, hazy, rainy Tuesday afternoon but I was just struck by a news flash
that proves intelligent life still swims in the mainstream.

Finally, Bill Withers is being inducted
into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Bill Withers
born on July 4, 1938
this image is from
TogetherWeServed.com
At the 2015 R&& Hall of Fame ceremony,
there will obviously be performances
of AINT NO SUNSHINE
and LEAN ON ME.

What is not obvious is whether
Mr. Withers will be part
of the performance.

From the Rolling Stone interview:
I don't want to be one
of those old guys who
sounds like a gerbil
giving birth to a
hippopotamus.

There are too many other quotes
from that hyper-linked interview
to mention here but please do
whatever it takes to see
this 2009 documentary
Still Bill

I speak on behalf
of a gazillion people
who swear that Bill's
21st century rendition
of  GRANDMA'S HANDS
in no way resembles a gerbil.

It sounds as good, if not better than,
a 20th century video of the same song.

Chico Hamilton Revisited

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Chico Hamilton
(1921-2013)

December 24, 1956

I never met Chico but he spent some
quality time with his upscale friend
and Manhattan high-rise neighbor,
Maxine Gordon. I have her
autograph  on a paycheck.

Dexter Gordon's widow
and Chico were reminiscing
over a 1940 Jefferson High School
yearbook which I legally purchased
from the school's principal. According
to Maxine, Chico pointed out a teacher
from his first period class who gave him a
failing grade because, the future jazz legend
would "smell like cigarets" after playing
drums in a Central Avenue club until
the early hours of the morning.

One decade later, in a place
called London, a young
boy worshipped
Charlie Parker
until...

He heard Chico Hamilton play drums.
This young man grew up to become a legendary drummer
in a different genre. The boy's name: Charlie Watts.
The orchestra  band he joined: the Rolling Stones.

That respiratory problems–

Which animal has none?

Stands for something simple:

But you can  call it  "Inversion Therapy."

The Pony, Paul, And Linda

Poem by Mrs. CarPeo

Sweet little ones, all three
The girl is faire
The boy is handsome

For freedom, the pony
would give a king's ransom

On a fabled Manhattan street–
Paved with gold–they meet

Building blocks of stone
Address unknown

Ditto, the year  they say
Was she in the city
that day?

Who Is That Lady?

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Pedro Berruguete
The Last Supper
(≈1475)

Who is that lady on her knees?
A  down-goer or come-upper?
Did she serve the
Last Supper?

No question
could be hipper
Than to ask:
Was Jesus a good tipper?

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Once It Was..

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Read the story in today's Art Daily
Once it was in Jewish hands
But it wasn't like owning a jalopy
They owned the original painting
As opposed to this hand held copy

Then Germany demanded distinction
With Hitler crying out for racial extinction

Not hung from trees like magnolias in the south
But gassed en masse for possession of a mouth

Yet less than ten percent of all who died:
World War II killed  60 million  world-wide

Therefore the holocaust curse
Could have been worse.

Post-war reunified Germany said
Our horrible history:
Let's just hurl it
But lo and behold:
Along came the Son of Gurlitt.

The father was hand-picked by Hitler's posse
To collect stolen Jewish art, degenerate or glossy

Little Cornelius loved what his Daddy did do
Inheriting from the Papa what rightly
Belonged to a Jew

But every war (virtually) ends
And Hitler's offspring
Had to make amends

Yet little Cornelius loved his art
Living in dirt but keeping it
Close to his heart

No longer little in 2012
Into his hoard of ill-gotten art
German authorities did delve

For a full year they were hush hush
While the sun got sunny
The moon got moony

Based on a true story
(except where we have to lie)
MONUMENTS MEN was Berlin-filmed
And Cornelius Gurlitt privately proclaimed
God Bless George Clooney

One full year of hush hush–
You know what I mean–
The busted Gurlitt was not news
Until 2013

God Bless international media–
They are so opposite of "groovy"–
MONUMENTS MEN proved to be
One God-awful movie

Ignoring the Gurlitt factor...
Then to his lawyer, George got married!
Distracting from  "monumental heroes" who–
To their own homes–stolen Jew-owned
art they illegally carried.

But other German Jew-owned art
Is where  anyone can see 'em
All you gotta do is go to
Any world-famous Art Museum

Yes we need a saner world
Not one of mega-paranoid size–
Believe in every Museum's innocence:
It is madness to think otherwise.

Sometimes ignorance can be bliss
Sometimes it can be a death-kiss.
