BLOOD ORANGES: Another Poem From My Smarter Half

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Greeks ate grapes.

Romans ate grapes.

People ate grapes
in the nineteen thirties,

In garden rooms,
in sophisticated rooms

With dropped ceilings,
made in Hollywood
shot from below.

They didn't know
from blood oranges
in those rooms.

They knew seeds.

Mrs. Oliverio
