Trump L'oeil

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Fifty six days from today
–January 20, 2017–
Donald Trump will be sworn in as
the 45th President of the United States.

Somewhere between 45 hundred
and 45 thousand (or million)
citizens of the United States
will consider the possibility
of looking North of the border.

They will consider relocating
to Canada to escape criticism
of their lifestyle
–or worse–
to escape arrest
or deportation.

But somehow,
in the Nineteenth Century,
a European artist symbolically
predicted this might happen
!!!

so much of

Maybe That Pay-Per-View Event Will Be Next Thanksgiving

________________________________________________________________________________________________

President-Elect Donald Trump
during his meeting at the New York Times
on Tuesday, November 22, 2016

Speaking of the Middle East,
Trump said unprompted:
“I would love to be able to be the one
that made peace with Israel
and the Palestinians,” adding,
“I have reason to believe
I can do that.”

And he hinted that his son-in-law,
Jared Kushner, could be his special envoy
and “he’d be very good at it...
He knows the region.”

(Wow, watching Trump try
to forge a deal between
Bibi Netanyahu and the Palestinians
would be pay-per-view!)

Thomas L. Friedman

On this Thanksgiving Day,
we would like to thank Mr. Friedman
for his very funny parenthetical statement.

On behalf of all Freedom-loving Americans,
we sincerely hope such journalistic humor
will not be compromised after
January 20, 2017.

I Think I Remember The Difference Between Them

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Despite sounding like homonyms,
being partially synonyms,
these two words
–for all intents and purposes–
are antonyms:

Mnemonic
is a device that enables you
to remember something.

Nomonic
 is a mnemonic device
that you have no memory
of what it represents.

One Quote + Three Quotes + One Quote

________________________________________________________________________________________________

The book is
by
One quote from the book:

I am at the moment writing a lengthy indictment
against our century. When my brain begins to reel
from my literary labors, I make
an occasional cheese dip.

Three quotes from book reviewers:

An astonishingly original and assured comic spree.
NEW YORK

The episodes explode one after the other
like fireworks on a stormy night.
No doubt about it, this book
is destined to become a classic.

The dialog is superbly mad.
You simply sweep along,
unbelievably entranced.
BOSTON GLOBE

One quote from me:

Never before has hyperbolic praise
of a novel ever been so accurate.
PAUL OLIVERIO

The Answers Are NO and NO

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Did someone bulldoze
a boat down to the shore line
and then sail out
to a luxury island?

The answers are NO and NO

A bulldozer re-arranged the sand
along this beach in what is a daily
and dubious custom in Long Beach.

The island as no hotels but it does
have a very active oil drill!

The shocking thing is that
people actually swim
in the  Chevron-flavored water.

A Course Offering From The University Of Scamology

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Laughter 101

Interested students need to be comfortable
with large groups of people in dark,
air-conditioned rooms and one silver screen
directly linked to the emotional controls
of everyone present.

The curriculum is based
on  control of those emotions.

The aspiring Laughers attend classes

in a warehouse basement in Hollywood.

They learn the difference between a guffaw
and a horselaugh; a ropple and a bellow.

They learn how to augment their larynx
(Like laughing into a megaphone.”)

A ropple is a roaring laugh that ripples
through an audience.

Upon completion of the course, certificates congratulate
the recipients for having a “Welcome Social Disease”
because professional laughter is highly contagious.

It infects everyone within its radius.
It shills into the brains of entire audiences
and resoundingly echoes out of their mouths.

Licensed to laugh, the “graduates” are then flown
to every cineplex in America.

Their effect is to eclipse the cause.

The professional Laugher must have a laugh
that is funnier than a poorly scripted scene
on the movie screen.

But those infected by the rippling, rollicking,
thigh-slapping  laughter that permeates its way
around the theater will walk out
stumble-drunk with hilarity.

Not because they had intercourse with a professional
Laugher  but  because of  a hysterically funny movie,
so they think.

Then the film will be  enthusiastically recommended
to friends and described in a manner superior
to how the movie had originally been written.

Then the friends repeat this process...And then their friends
tell other movie-going people...and you have
another rippling effect that puts
the boffo in the box-office.

Professional  Laughers are future candidates
for Weight Watchers of America:  they are all fat.
As a bonus for their sit-down labors, they receive
life-time supplies of buttered popcorn and Milk Duds.

And hot  dogs and movie anecdotes.
