The Long Awaited Return Of Adan And Eva

________________________________________________________________________________________________

"I think I found fleas,"
 said Adan, while scaling
 Mount Big Cheese.

 Eva's feet dig into
 a Cheesy cheek.

She was not
 feeling
 meek.

 She was thinking:
"I can't wait to
 hump his rump."
 ***

"His Cheesy hair"
  exclaimed Adan
  looks like a wizened
  Italian Trump.

"Your mind,
  as always"
  said Eva,
"Is under the bus
  and all you really are
  is jealous."

The Vertical Church

________________________________________________________________________________________________

The congregation
is non-sectarian.

Church members
are not held together
by common faith.

What they have
in common is
a physical feature:

All members are
six feet six inches
or taller.

There is no crucifix
in the Vertical Church.

There is only
a basketball hoop.

The Pastor's name
is "Coach."

Today's sermon:
Transcending the D-League

Pews are made of
splintered wood
because no one
wants to sit
on the bench.

But there is no ball.
Only hope.

A Photograph From Virginia + A Poem From Vonnegut

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Sweet wraith,
Invisible mist of . . .
I am—
My soul—
Wraith lovesick o’erlong,
O’erlong alone:
Wouldst another sweet soul meet?
Long have I
Advised thee ill
As to where two souls
Might tryst.
My soles, my soles!
My soul, my soul,
Go there,
Sweet soul;
Be kissed.
Mmmmmmm.

A Multiplication Of What Titian Painted Almost 500 Years Ago

Pope Paul III and his Grandsons
(1545)

QUESTION:
If the grandsons of a Pontiff
were than acknowledged as such
then today, there must be
legitimate descendents
of a Pope.

Are such people
stockholders of the Vatican?

...
advisors to Pope Francis?

Or are they
just plain folks?

What Is A Dad To Do ... A Poem For Michael

________________________________________________________________________________________________

What is a Dad to do
when every work day
is a hell hole of teenagers

though some call it a classroom

What is a Dad to do
when every home day
is a battlefield with three
gender opposites

though some call it family

What is a Dad to do?

1.
Squirrel away every bent
syllable and verb
until another poem
is born

though some call it esoterica

What is a Dad to do?

2.
Squirrel away every dollar
without budget collar
and at season's end
of every hellhole
say Hello Europe
with three gender
opposites

He goes through hell
to give them a taste
of heaven

3.
and the comfort
to call him
Terrible

Did You Hear The One About The Teacher Who...

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Had a student who ditched
his Math class for the last two
months of the semester
But gave the student
 C+ as a final grade
???

The student wasn't
ditching school,
he was just
spending
his Math time
in the print shop.

The student was doing
computer work instead of
solving equations.

The Math teacher was chummy
with CW, whose print shop
did work for fifteen schools
in the area in addition
to printing weekly
advertising circulars.

The Math teacher was not
mad at CW for harboring
one of his students.

Quite the contrary!

CW allowed the student
to use his printing facilities
for a "special project."

Of all the triangles
not named for Pythagoras,
THE PASCAL TRIANGLE
is the most important,
the most intriguing,
and the most practical.

It is also incredibly easy
to understand and,
visually, is very delightful.

If I wanted to be abstruse,
I would use the following
formula to explain
Blaise Pascal's
masterpiece:
But I would rather
just show you what
Miguel Cardenas created
for me to receive a C+
final grade for a class
he ditched for two months.

This image is
one-eighth
actual
size.

It is the first 20 rows
of the Pascal Triangle.

I was so proud
of Miguel Cardenas,
his art work became
patio decor when I moved
to Virginia.

Five of my little neighbors there,
none older than ten, were very curious
about Pascal's Triangle.

I asked them to figure out
where each number came from
and they did so on their own:

Each number is the sum
of the two numbers above it.

Unless it is at the end of a row
in which case, the number is one.

I did, however, explain to them
Pascal's Hockey stick.

Not until their ages had doubled
would the five Virginia children
ever have learned about
Pascal's Triangle
if it had not been for
MIGUEL CARDENAS
of South-Central
Los Angeles.

Here is an enlarged detail
from Pascal's Triangle:

The most MUST-SEE
jazz video ever

The False Dichotomy

________________________________________________________________________________________________

The classical orchestra and the jazz combo are fixed images of polar opposites.

Solid structure and loose improvisation may fit on the same musical globe but have the proximity of the north and south pole.

Or do they?

THE CLASSICAL ORCHESTRA:
Fifty chairs  set  in perfectly curved rows and columns  containing fifty tuxedoed musicians segregated by instrument: violins/violas in one  section,  cellos/double bass in  another;  upper-register wind instruments in the mezzanine, lower-register in the rear of the stage.

Behind them, tympani/percussion is placed diametrically opposite the Conductor.

For every chair, a music stand with sheets of symbols demanding absolute obedience.

What  is  the end product of this assemblage?

It is the music that the Gods listen to
when they takes the phone off the  hook.

The musicians will probably sip champagne after the concert.

THE JAZZ  COMBO:
A piano,  drum kit,  and maybe a microphone for the stand-up bass player are set up on a small stage with poor lighting. Maybe a chair if the band contains a guitar and  maybe mikes for the horn section,  if there is one.

Possibly a singer will tell a tale of sexual promiscuity. Hopefully the club owner will pay everybody.

What is the end product of  this  assemblage?

This is the other music the Gods listen to
only now they pull down the shades and tap their feet.

The musicians will probably smoke a joint between sets.

And  the Gods  laughs  olympically at  the so-called  “improvising” of  the jazz band. As  if the musicians were making it up out of thin air when they’ve spent entire lifetimes preparing the sounds they are creating.

Can this music function without a “Conductor”?
Definitely!

Drumsticks are transformed batons that become the two hands of a clock and every drummer is Father Time’s alter ego.

And Father Time wears a Conductor's suit.

A Presidential Debate About A Round White Thing

________________________________________________________________________________________________

In honor of President's Day,
the question is asked:
Which President threw out
the BEST First Pitch
???

The tradition of a President
throwing the First Pitch
of  a baseball game
dates back to
but MLB.com presents
video of every President
since John Kennedy
doing so.

As for the bold italic
question above:

I never thought I would say this but

He is the only pitching Prez
who did NOT make the catcher
move out of "his crotch"
to catch the ball.
