1994
The little blue boy
in the back of the bus
is the only one who is not one of us

The little boy
with his eyes in a book
is the only one with a different look

We all shout
and scream and laugh with glee
he–the bus driver’s dream–has a knobby red knee

Bespectacled
with blue jeans and a blue beret
who, amongst us, will fling it away?

2014
The little blue boy
is now a full grown man
we wash his car as often as we can

It’s okay
that he calls each of us “flipper”
it’s okay because he’s a generous tipper
