Poem For Guy Pene du Bois

Americans in Paris
(1927)

They are walking
They are talking

Across the bridge they go

All with heels
All with hats
Are they going to a show?

Recently Mrs. CarPeo was seeking images of Greenwich Village.
She serendipitously discovered this Brooklyn-born
American artist of French descent.
.
We will have more to say about  Guy Pene du Bois.

  1. Our immediate ancestors knew why they are dressed so.
One never went to Coney Island "undecked out" or go
anywhere in attire, now termed "casual".
    Style was their fuel.

  2. It is very sad that the words
Style and Casual are now antonyms.

Unfortunately, what began as "Casual Friday"
is now a 24/7 fact of life.

I would hate to be a neck tie salesman today.
