In All Ernstness: Max And Jimmy...(JE #1)

________________________________________________________________________________________________

"If twenty people were to receive royalties
every time the word surreal was spoken,
Max Ernst  would be one of them,"

  said the BIRD HEAD.  ⟿

Five days ago, there was
an Obligation for those of us
with Pope Francis in our blood.

Born in 1891,  Max Ernst was a German Catholic.

That holy day of December
Obligation is known as
THE IMMACULATE
CONCEPTION.

That is also the name
of this Ernst piece ➜

In 1918, Max married
Luise Strauss.

In 1920, she gave birth
to  Hans-Ulrich Ernst
who was born in
the same city
as his father:
Cologne.

This  ROCKING HORSE
may or may not have been
a gift from Father to Son.

That is, a gift from
the Ernst known
as Max to the
Ernst who
became
Jimmy.

And the Ernst who became Jimmy
was also an artist.

He may or may not have been a Surrealist.

You be the judge...

Jimmy Ernst
(1920-1984)

  1. It's surreal if realistic things
are portrayed as wacky fun guys

    YES...
    but true surrealism
    comes with a special
    conscious/unscious twist
