Written When He Was A College Sophomore

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Faith, Hope, and Watery Milk …

Of the three, I will take Thicker milk.

Since there is no Thicker Milk,

Give me a little Hope.

J.D. Salinger
(1938)

Ursinus College 1939 Yearbook
Salinger is in back row
far left

The Institute of Inane Research
has determined that  student Salinger
also wrote a poem entitled
Hope is Thicker than Milk.

But this poem was written
in his official school status
as Roaming Romeo.

Mary Lou Milquetoast
(a/k/a, Milk)
was slim, trim,
and busty.

Harriet Louise Hopely
(a/k/a, Hope)
was sexy but
cylindrical.

Hope is thicker than Milk
but tomorrow,
I will drink Juice
(a/k/a, Rita Mae Juwsnick)
