The Man Who Failed To Fulfill His Boyhood Dream

________________________________________________________________________________________________

I wanted to be a cop ever since
I was five years old.
Not because of the uniform;
not because of the gun;
because of the whistle.

It was some kind
of oral fixation thing.

So I took the policeman's test
after graduating from high school
but failed because they would not
allow me to put
a Winchell's Donut sticker
on the patrol car.
