The Modern Ruins Of Downtown Long Beach

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Once upon a time
in downtown Long Beach,
there was a multiplex theatre
with sixteen screens
It opened its doors
in 1992
then went out of business
in 2010

This image
is from a website
called
"Cinema Treasures"
because Long Beach
is not the kind of town
to call it
"Cinema Mistakes"

I photographed
the image below
in 2012

It features
an aerial view
of what had been
the elevator
within
the multiplex

I do not know
what that former elevator
looks like today

But the space
that occupied
sixteen movie screens
is unoccupied by
any retail business
or public use
in 2018

However,
the exterior
of the building
looks almost identical
to how it appeared
in 1992
but without any posters
or  signage
for featured films

In 2018,
The exterior
of the cineplex
is graced with
the most popular sign
in Downtown Long Beach:
LEASING SPECIALS
