Family Poetry From A Five-Year-Old

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Mommy feeds me
she hugs me
she loves me

And Daddy don't know my name

Mommy needs me
she reads to me
she sings to me

And Daddy don't know my name

She was his dancer
and romancer
until her belly bubbled
with me

Now we're baking in Bakersfield
just the two of us
but we ride the city bus
for free

Daddy don't know my name
but he sure knew
how to find fame
Then he called us
from Hollywood
and wouldn't you believe it:
he asked Mommy my name
but didn't ask for me

He told her to watch TV
and what do you know
the next day he was on
The Ellen Show

Saying how much he loved
his five-year-old daughter, Sheree

Mommy lied to him
and it made me laugh
because my name is Marie
Mommy loves me
and makes me smart
I've taken her silly lie to heart

And Daddy don't know my name
but he knows how to
sell rap music
(and himself)
