The counter-protesters 

counter-protested
 

Both did so
loudly and vigorously

yet peacefully
 

Not one punch
was thrown

The only casualty
was Mr. Clarity

Dead and gone

The protesters said
“We didn’t need him"

The counter-protesters said
“Neither did we”

Both agreed
they only needed
their communal beliefs
their posters

their slogans

their costumes

their reefer
their hatreds

Both agreed they needed
their masterminds
with the mealy-mouthing
miasma

We do not need Mr. Clarity
nor his sideswiping wife, Truth

The protesters
and the counter-protesters
then lunched together

No one protests
a picnic
