Is This The Sequel To Nathaniel West's MISS LONELYHEARTS?

It takes more than
writing a letter to cure you.

For weepiness is
a dreadful sickness
which I had
a serious case of.

Writing a letter
only picks at the scab.

You might as well
put a shot of penicillin
in the ocean to cure it
from being deep.

  1. The link enabled me to read the story but I wouldn't dare
refer to it as the sequel to MISS LONELYHEARTS.
However, it makes for a great companion story
    to the Nathanael West classic.

    1. I agree with you but I used the title
for shock value because so much
      of Herlihy's short story collection,
      THE SLEEP OF BABY FILBERTON,
      reminded me of Nathanael West.

Both authors had a very firm grasp
      on the personalities of outliers.

      MISS LONELYHHEARTS is classic
      but unfortunately, the author died
      an early death.

Herlihy's MIDNIGHT COWBOY is also a classic
both as a novel and a film
