Katonah was Mrs. CarPeo's

last home in New York

before she became

a Californian citizen

in 2016

I had visited her there 

five times before

the move

and was healthy enough

to walk five miles

each day

 

Three doors down from her house,

I routinely worked out

on this punching bag,

each blow resoundingly echoed

across a huge yard

in front of

an apartment complex
