I Wanted To Post This Yesterday But ...

Yesterday,

I wanted to celebrate

the 123rd birthday of 

Langston Hughes

and honor 

the Black Poet

on the first day

 of Black History Month

 

 I have known 

and loved this poem

for fifty-two years

 

However,

three black people

in a supermarket

—in rapid succession—

behaved so flagrantly contrary

to the spirit of this poem

by threatening employees

and me

I considered

abandoning reference to

the celebration of this month

which I have honored

every year of Blog-o-overio 

This morning,

I will abandon

that abandonment 

and here is...
