To succeed as a
senior citizen,
it behooves
the elder
to have
a keen sense
of when and where
to take a nap
But that is a skill
this senior citizen
developed
fifty-four years ago
Napping on a railroad track
happened naturally for me
because I had
a nineteen-year-old
bed-rail bambino
whose ecstatic laughter
awoke me
whenever
the tracks contained
a fast-approaching
commuter train
en route to

As for the "19-year-old bambino"
Mary McCarthy would be hard-pressed to care
about the Bambino [Jack's then-girlfriend]
because it was taken twelve years before
Jack was to have his last taste of Alcohol
