What Did I Know And When Did I Know It?

________________________________________________________________________________________________

In 1967,
I knew who
"em Booze"
was

It was a Sunday morning
when my Father
drove me to Willets Point

He gave me $40
and said
Let's go Jets

This was to be
the only football game
I attended at Shea Stadium

Joe Namath
Matt Snell, and Larry Grantham
were the team leaders

But the star of this game was
who would lead the league
in touchdowns
that year

There is no memory of
anyone chanting "BOOZE"
to acknowledge him

But
I had a general admission ticket
and
there were shouts of
Sock It To Me
from black men
who also had
general admission
tickets

At the end of the following season,

That following year,
one of the funniest shows
in the history of network television
premiered:

made the phrase
Sock It To ME
universally famous
