The 74th Bullet: Full Frontal Forgetting Is Deception's Best Friend

________________________________________________________________________________________________

When you do something violent,
stupid, or illegal–
and immediately forget
what you did–
 You are telling the truth
when you deny it
because you truly have
no memory for such a deed.

You Do Not Have To Be A Baseball Fan To Appreciate This Story

________________________________________________________________________________________________

As a kid, Jason Kipnis had dreamed
about slugging a World Series home run
at Wrigley Field.

Sometimes he acted out the situation
with a Wiffle ball.

Sometimes, it was a softball.

Other times, an acorn.

His dad would pitch and his mom
would sit in a chair
and cheer him on.

He never imagined, though,
that he would hit a momentous home run
to silence his hometown crowd.

The story continues
here.

This Is Not ... This Is ... [TIN/TI #32]

________________________________________________________________________________________________

  ⬆
THIS IS NOT
a statue
of Jack Benny.

THIS IS
a statue
of  Jack Benny.

   The multi-talented man
in the bottom image
is world famous.

The scholarly man
in the top image
should be as famous
as Thomas Jefferson
but is not.

He is George Mason,
the forgotten Founding Father
who–in 1776–wrote
THE VIRGINIA
 DECLARATION OF RIGHTS
proclaiming

“That all men are born equally free
and independent, and have certain
inherent natural Rights… among which are
the Enjoyment of Life and Liberty,
with the Means of acquiring
and possessing Property, and pursuing
and obtaining Happiness and Safety.”

Later–that same year–nearly
the exact same words appeared in
THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE.

Thomas Jefferson denied all charges
of plagiarism by saying he was only
honoring the wisdom of
the wisest man
of his generation.

Sports Poetry From A 15-Year-Old Boy

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Football

Now they’re ready, now they’re waiting,
Now he’s going to place the ball.
There, you hear the referee’s whistle,
As of old the baton’s fall.
See him crouching. Yes, he’s got it;
Now he’s off around the end.
Will the interference save him?
Will the charging line now bend?
Good he’free; no, see that halfback
Gaining up behind him slow.
Crash! they’re down; he threw him nicely,—
Classy tackle, hard and low.
Watch that line, now crouching waiting,
In their jerseys white and black;
Now they’re off and charging, making
Passage for the plunging back.
Buck your fiercest, run your fastest,
Let the straight arm do the rest.
Oh, they got him; never mind, though,
He could only do his best.
What is this? A new formation.
Look! their end acts like an ass.
See, he’s beckoning for assistance,
Maybe it’s a forward pass.
Yes, the ball is shot to fullback,
He, as calmly as you please,
Gets it, throws it to the end; he
Pulls the pigskin down with ease.
Now they’ve got him. No, they haven’t.
See him straight-arm all those fools.
Look, he’s clear. Oh, gee! don't stumble.
Faster, faster, for the school.
There’s the goal, now right before you,
Ten yards, five yards, bless your name!
Oh! you Newman, 1911,
You know how to play the game.

Seven Reasons Why He Deserved What He Got

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Somebody got lucky
But it was an accident.

***

Is your heart made out of stone, or is it lime
Or is it just solid rock?

***

Your debutante just knows what you need
But I know what you want.

***

I didn’t mean to make you so sad
You just happened to be there, that’s all.

***

An’ I told you, as you clawed out my eyes
That I never meant to do you any harm.

***

You say you got some other kind of lover
And yes, I believe you do
You say my kisses are not like his
But this time I’m not gonna tell you why that is
I’m just gonna let you pass.

But when we meet again
Introduced as friends
Please don’t let on that you knew me when
I was hungry and it was your world.

An Ego Built For Two

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Gloria’s independence,
like all sincere and profound qualities,
had begun unconsciously, but,
once brought to her attention by
Anthony’s fascinated discovery of it,
it assumed more nearly
the proportions of a formal code.

From her conversation it might be assumed
that all her energy and vitality went into
a violent affirmation of the negative principle
“Never give a damn.”

“Not for anything or anybody,” she said,
“except myself and, by implication, for Anthony.
That’s the rule of all life and if it weren’t
I’d be that way anyhow.
Nobody’d do anything for me
if it didn’t gratify them to,
and I’d do as little for them.”

The Anecdotal Age Of Teddy Legmund

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Teddy Legmund  should have died young,
leaving behind a pretty corpse
but his ego would not
allow that.

Then his heart, which had romanced him
through one hundred and one silk sheets,
sent up flares.

But now, another friend means another
lunch tab as long as Teddy  does all  the talking.
Every conversation is  an audience of one
and every fifth story is about
a pacemaker.

A Handful Of Words From A Handful Of Dust

________________________________________________________________________________________________

For a month now he had lived
in a world suddenly bereft of order.
It was as though the whole reasonable
and decent constitution of things,
the sum of all he had experienced
or learned to expect, were an inconspicuous,
inconsiderable object mislaid somewhere
on the dressing table.

No outrageous circumstance in which
he found himself, no new mad thing
brought to his notice, could add a jot
to the all-encompassing chaos
that shrieked about his ears.

Therefore

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Earthquakes, hurricanes, and tornadoes
are Acts of God.

Therefore,
God has a very destructive nature.

Man was made in the image of God.

Therefore,
man has a very very destructive nature.

To approximate God's destructive nature,
man created War.

Therefore–
for all intents and purposes–
War is a Godsend.

In The Corner Of The Bar At The Corner Saloon...

________________________________________________________________________________________________

There stands a man with small hands
and a big mouth.

The man is the only one
in the bar who is alone.

He is ranting and raving incoherently,
spewing louder than all
the conversations in the saloon.

The house is full.

All the other patrons are seated
on the bar stools or at the tables.

The rant is disruptive and disturbing.

The volume is supersonic
but no one complains.

Not only does no one complain,
they applaud the man with small hands
and a big mouth.

The explanation is simple:

He is picking up the tab
for everyone in the bar.

His name is Donald Trump.
