Miss Hibiscus

Let the rose
have all the poetry

Let the rose 
have heaven-sent scent
and a sacred place
in every culture

But I'll bet every cent
and every dollar
that if you put us
in a beauty contest

Blindfolding the judges
to the poetry and
the heaven-sent scent

I would win

Despite giving
a speech where I
care not one iota
about world peace or
saving the children:

All I want is
an occasional drink of water
