In the middle of the 20th Century,
a middle-class kid I did be
with a six-legged cultural boundary:

Willie Mays, Ed Sullivan, Bobby Vee
plus 3 networks w/ middle letter  B
as in NBC, CBS and ABC.

In 1961,   Jimmy Durante  was a guest
on  Make Room For Daddy.

At a museum,  Danny Thomas and Jimmy Durante
encounter The Thinker, a life-size sculpture.

 Jimmy exclaims:
"I know what he is thinking!
He's thinking Where did I leave my clothes?"

This was my first exposure to the art of  Auguste Rodin.

By the end of the 20th Century,
thanks to an extraordinary museum in Pasadena,
I knew that "burgers" could be spelt
with an h without adding ham.

Henry Moore
Three Standing Figures
(1953)

I was four years old when
Mr. Moore brought this sculpture
to life but I will now do
what four thousand people
have done before me:
I will give names to those three figures.

PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE
symbolizes my connection
to the Norton Simon Museum.

PAST
When I lived in Burbank,
  I visited the Pasadena museum
frequently and loved every minute of it.

(Despite the shock to the system
when they dis-allowed smoking
on the premises.)

PRESENT
Exactly one week ago today,
I returned to the Norton Simon
for the first time in twelve years.

The mixture of memories, fun,
"stealth photography,"
and aesthetic appreciation
were thoroughly intoxicating.

My gratitude to my best friend
in Long Beach cannot be measured,
partly because he–not me–did the driving.

FUTURE
I eagerly await a double-date
at the Norton Simon:
my best friend with his wife
plus Mr. And Mrs. CarPeo.

A Poem By William Carlos Williams

________________________________________________________________________________________________

What have I to say to you
When we shall meet?
Yet—
I lie here thinking of you.

The stain of love
Is upon the world.
Yellow, yellow, yellow,
It eats into the leaves,
Smears with saffron
The horned branches that lean
Heavily
Against a smooth purple sky.

There is no light—
Only a honey-thick stain
That drips from leaf to leaf
And limb to limb
Spoiling the colours
Of the whole world.

I am alone.
The weight of love
Has buoyed me up
Till my head
Knocks against the sky.

See me!
My hair is dripping with nectar—
Starlings carry it
On their black wings.
See, at last
My arms and my hands
Are lying idle.

How can I tell
If I shall ever love you again
As I do now?

The VERMIN SAINT Created by Maloney The Areopoagite

________________________________________________________________________________________________

"If you are interested,
I will give you a short summary of his life"

The Institute of Inane Research
has discovered the only shrine dedicated to St. Puce:

It can be found in the Writer's Room
of a sit-com whose main character
got his name from a 1938 story:
Day of The Locust
by Nathanael West.

Mr. West's first published novella,
The Dream Life of Balso Snell
documents the existence
of the Holy Flea.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________
Footnotes
Balso Snell's Dream Life was originally published in 1931.

Another vermin  was sanctified in 2013.

But unlike the Holy Flea,
He is ensconced in the Holy See.

The text photograph  is from
page 115 of this edition of
The Dream Life Of Balso Snell

She Said I Must Have Been Dreaming

________________________________________________________________________________________________

I was awakened by a hand

I couldn't breath because
it was covering my face

Breathing normaized within seconds
sleep normalized within  minutes

****

She said I must have been dreaming
She said that on the phone
from three thousand
                      miles away

                        But she was wrong

Her hand has a very big reach

Almost as big as her heart

Soon–very soon

Soon–very soon
Soon–very soon
Soon–very soon

We will  be this close:

With no more virtual emotions
or actual miles between us

When all phone calls
will be upstairs/downstairs
conversations

The Sesquipadelian "Corporate Philanthropy-Misanthropy Ratio"

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Excluding the excremental profusions from the mouth
of Donald Trump–when the ratio is as low as 1:7777
the Corporate Philanthropy-Misanthropy Ratio
has not deviated substantially from
the ratio of one act of corporate  benevolence
to seven hundred and seventy acts
of corporate malevolence.

The 1:770 ratio was determined
by  ONION NEWS
eighteen years ago.

This means that every time a corporation
rewards a student scholarship, there are
seven hundred and seventy corporate instances of deceit,
corruption, environmental pollution or tax-dodging.

To simplify the ONION's
 Philanthropy-Misanthropy Ratio:
it represents the yin-yang
behavior of corporations
as a ratio of good deeds to bad deeds.

The next Donald Trump page is  here.

Is That Kafka? 99 Finds ... Is A Book That Doubles As A Museum

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Honored guests at this banquet!
It is true that I have a set
a world record, but if you
were to ask me how I achieved it,
I would be unable to answer you
to your satisfaction.
You see, I actually cannot swim at all.

I have always wanted to learn,
but I have never found
the opportunity.
So how did it happen that
my fatherland sent me
to the Olympiad?

That is exactly the question
that concerns me, too.

This is an excerpt of an incomplete
Kafka story included as one of
 ninety-nine items presented
 in  Kurt Beals' new book.

"Find #13" answers the question
 What color are Kafka's eyes?

 Unfortunately, five different
 answers are given by people
 who,  in fact, actually
 knew the man.

 However, the question
 What was Kafka's favorite song
 is answered in an exhibited
 postcard written to
 his "little sister."

 His favorite song is
"Now Farewell, You Little Alley."

 Mr. Beals has also authored
 a three-volume biography
 of Franz Kafka.

The excerpt at the top of this page
was given a title by Beals: Kafka Dreams of an Olympian Victory.

The next GoFather/KAFKA page is  here.

You wouldn't have to imagine anything
if you read a 1937 Nathanael West novel

and inspiring  Matt Groenig  to use
that same name  many years later.

Written in 1989: Fifty Years After The Fair

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Fifty years after the fair
The picture I have is so clear
Underneath the clouds in the air
Rose the trylon and the perisphere
And that for me was the finest of scenes
That perfect world across the river in queens

Twehty-five years after
this New York World's Fair...
There was another New York World's Fair
in the exact same place.

Fifty times, I got free entry into the latter
by climbing a fence
but was only
arrested twice!

If Only I Had Been Thirty Years Older...

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Pain never makes me cry
but happiness does

Eagle-Eye Cherry

"Eagle-Eye" is the name that appears on his birth certificate, according to his brother, whom I met at Tower Records in Pasadena.

In 1990-something, David Cherry and I had two lengthy conversations in-store and he was very impressed him that I was teaching at Jefferson High School.

"The legendary Jefferson High," he exclaimed, "that hotbed of jazz! It's got a roster as famous as the 1927 New York Yankees."

David and Eagle Eye's father,  DON CHERRY,  was a student at Jefferson but many years before my time.

"The legendary Don Cherry! David, if I were thirty years older, I might have been your father's teacher. Wouldn't that have been something?"

"Paul, if that were the case, my father might have gone into avant garde mathematics instead of avant garde jazz."

"And you would be working at Cal Tech instead of Tower Records. Eagle-Eye and Nenah Cherry would have become Ivory tower professors."

"If that were true, we might have given the world Cherry Mathematics. Wouldn't that have been something?"

"Yes: Avant Garde Cherry Mathematics where polygons–instead of having different numbers of sides–would come in different flavors!"

"And Infinity would just be another exit
off the Santa Monica Freeway.
But Paul, I have to exit this conversation
because Tower Records
gives me a paycheck
and they won't be going bankrupt
for another five years!"

David Cherry

Eagle-Eye Cherry

Neneh Cherry

Don Cherry
One of the founding fathers of avant garde jazz
and the actual father of David, Eagle-Eye and Neneh!

He is also the composer of  MULTI-KULTI
