Read the story in today's Art Daily |
But it wasn't like owning a jalopy
They owned the original painting
As opposed to this hand held copy
Then Germany demanded distinction
With Hitler crying out for racial extinction
Not hung from trees like magnolias in the south
But gassed en masse for possession of a mouth
Yet less than ten percent of all who died:
World War II killed 60 million world-wide
Therefore the holocaust curse
Could have been worse.
Post-war reunified Germany said
Our horrible history:
Let's just hurl it
But lo and behold:
Along came the Son of Gurlitt.
The father was hand-picked by Hitler's posse
To collect stolen Jewish art, degenerate or glossy
Little Cornelius loved what his Daddy did do
Inheriting from the Papa what rightly
Belonged to a Jew
But every war (virtually) ends
And Hitler's offspring
Had to make amends
Yet little Cornelius loved his art
Living in dirt but keeping it
Close to his heart
No longer little in 2012
Into his hoard of ill-gotten art
German authorities did delve
For a full year they were hush hush
While the sun got sunny
The moon got moony
Based on a true story (except where we have to lie) |
And Cornelius Gurlitt privately proclaimed
God Bless George Clooney
One full year of hush hush–
You know what I mean–
The busted Gurlitt was not news
Until 2013
God Bless international media–
They are so opposite of "groovy"–
MONUMENTS MEN proved to be
One God-awful movie
Ignoring the Gurlitt factor...
Then to his lawyer, George got married!
Distracting from "monumental heroes" who–
To their own homes–stolen Jew-owned
art they illegally carried.
But other German Jew-owned art
Is where anyone can see 'em
All you gotta do is go to
Any world-famous Art Museum
Yes we need a saner world
Not one of mega-paranoid size–
Believe in every Museum's innocence:
It is madness to think otherwise.
Sometimes ignorance can be bliss
Sometimes it can be a death-kiss.
