My haikus
are no longer linked together
because I did not
want to make life
too easy for our favorite thieves

But I'd risk a felony charge
if I could steal haikus from
these two guys

DJ-Oliverio: Lyrics That Touch Me Much Too Deeply

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

Judy
wrote the saddest song
She showed it to
a boy in school today

Judy
where did you go wrong?
You used to make me smile
when I was down

Judy
was a teenage rebel
She did it with a boy
when she was young

She gave herself
to books and learning
She gave herself
to being number one

Judy
I don't know you
if you're gonna show me
everything

Judy got a book at school
She went under the covers
with her torch

She fell asleep
till it was morning

She dreamt about the girl
who stole a horse

Judy
never felt so good
except when she was sleeping

Judy
let's go for a walk
We can kiss and do
whatever you want

But
you will be disappointed
You will fall asleep
with ants in your pants

Judy
you're just trying to find
and keep
the dream of horses

The best looking boys are taken
The best looking girls
are staying inside

So Judy
 where does that leave you?

Walking the street
from morning to night
With a star
upon your shoulder
lighting up the path
that you walk

With a parrot
on your shoulder,
saying everything
when you talk

If you're ever feeling blue
Then write another song
about your dream of horses

I have eyes for you
to give you dirty looks
I have words that do not come
from children's books
there's a trick with a knife
I'm learning to do
And everything I've got
belongs to you
I've a powerful anesthesia
in my fist
And the perfect wrist to give
 your neck a twist
There are hammerlock holds
I've mastered a few
And everything I've got
belongs to you

Almighty Metamorphosis (Comic Relief #3802)

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

On that day,
I crumbled to the ground

Just like they did
on the only day in history
that will be remembered
as a fraction:
9/11

Of course,
I am referring to
the World Trade Center
catastrophe on
SEPTEMBER  11, 2001

I was fractured
and lost my need
for omnipotence,
omniscience, and all that
creator stuff

She gave me comfort
—naturally—
and I gave her
complete control
of Planet Earth

For twenty-years now,
I just sit on the porch
in my favorite rocking chair,
and reminisce about all
those wonderful things
we created:
the birds, and the mountains,
the sky, and the sea,
Mozart, Bette Davis, and  Willie Mays.

But,
regardless of who
is hanging out
on the porch
with me,
drinking tea, cofee,
cognac, or whatever,
I tell them
about my two
favorite things,
which are
the run-on sentence,
and
the comma

If she is hanging out
on the porch with me,
everyone else departs

That's cool and I don't ask
any questions
about her now being
in the driver's seat,
so to speak

We have quality time
on the porch,
of course,
but the boudoir
aint what it used to be

Since Godette got
full control
of Planet Earth,
she's gone muck-mouthed,
cursing like a sailor,
spewing profanity
everywhere
with slang
up the wazoo

She got tattoos
all over her body,
all created
by her favorite artist:

But she's still
as cute as a button,
to me

Once she asked me
 for a
"fondmem off the humes"
[fond memory of human beings]

I told her
at La Scala
[my favorite Opera House]

"Not that goddam shit
about
It's a Man's World"

"Well,"
I replied
"with my co-creator,
the greatest love
of my Eternal Life,
now
at the controls
of Planet Earth,
I sincerely believe
it is no longer
a man's world"

Godette responded
with the same sentiment
but she did so
with pure, simple
words:

"Me, too"
she said

*

All I  will now say
to my gender
is
"Good luck:
know when to zip
your lip,
and, also,
 when to keep
 your hands
in your pockets"

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Chapter Seven

I am who I am
except when
I am not

That's always
the option
I have got

I can be you
you can be me
that is
the meaning
of liberty

I can't be there
when I am here
but I can always go
elsewhere
with you
in the backseat
or not

That's an option
we've got
***

Chapter Eight

There was the birth,
infancy, childhood,
youth, adulthood,
a profession,
a retirement
and now this

I was one,
I was eleven,
I was twenty-one
...
and now
I am plenty-one

Most of it was better than
most other people's lives
with a large chunk
of my life spent
in a waterfront-home
adjacent to this:
But I always felt
closer to nowhere
unless I had
the beach to myself

In the summer
of my fifteenth birthday,
I fell in love
right in front
of the Long Island Sound

The sound it made in my heart
can still be heard
three thousand miles away
on the West coast

It was the day I met
Annette Funicello

We were a pretty big
beach crowd
and all our fathers
were good
to our mothers
but they all
were in love with
Marilyn Monroe
or Jackie Kennedy
and all boys
my age were equally in love
with Annette

This wasn't the actual
actress/Mouseketeer
but let us say
it was her twin sister

She ambled over to
our beach blankets
and Nickie Mangello
(our "gang" leader)
introduced her
to everyone

But the last person
he introduced
was me
with the words
"and this is no one in particular"
***

Chapter 9

Everyone but me laughed
and my heartache
measured on the Richter Scale

I walked home that day
feeling bluer than blue
and suicide seemed
the only option

At midnight
 I jumped out my window
but my room
was on the ground floor
and I only stubbed my toe

That was when my laughter
was loud enough
to wake up
 the neighborhood
***

Chapter 10

My sister Linda
was one of
Nickie Mangello's girlfriends
(he called her Wednesday)

Her personality
was sweeter than honey

Before the neighbors
could complain about
my volcanic midnight laughter,
she convinced them
that we were having
a midnight barbecque

I was to be the host
and she was my
"straight man"

I told jokes like
My parents were so cheap
they bought used diapers
[this was years before Pampers]

I had everyone
laughing their asses off
but I served them
the most overdone
hamburgers
yet no one
complained
