The Burghers of Calais

© Oliverio *** In the middle of the 20th Century, a middle-class kid I did be with a six-legged cultural boundary: Willie Mays, Ed Sullivan, Bobby Vee plus 3 networks w/ middle letter B as in NBC, CBS and ABC. In 1961, Jimmy Durante was a guest on Make Room For Daddy. At a museum, Danny Thomas and Jimmy Durante encounter The Thinker, a life-size sculpture. Jimmy exclaims: "I know what he is thinking! He's thinking Where did I leave my clothes?" This was my first exposure to the art of Auguste Rodin. By the end of the 20th Century, thanks to an extraordinary museum in Pasadena, I knew that "burgers" could be spelt with an h without adding ham.
