The Ghost of SHAMIKA BRYANT Defends Prud-i-Verio

After he retired

and unsuccessfully

moved to Virginia

to be near his sister

and her family,

Mr. Oliverio

returned to California

to live in

Long Beach

While he was still solvent,

he vacationed in

Eugene, Oregon

 

His first morning there

—at a four-star hotel—

he noticed two school busses

in the parking lot

 

A middle-aged man explained

that his son and twenty

of his classmates

were in a state-wide 

forensics competition at

University of Oregon

 

Oliverio followed the busses

to observe the debates

on the campus

and fell in love 

with the school

 

He cheered boisterously

for his hotel-mate students

than walked around the campus

where there was no shortage

of young snatch

like I used to be

 

But his second-most 

satisfying moment

happened when 

Paul arrived at this door

 The most satisfying moment

was on the other side

of this door

when a thick volume

of math research papers

published in

THE FIBONACCI QUARTERLY

included his research

that was originally

developed for 

Jefferson students

with one of them

[Mario Hernandez]

actually having his name

hidden in 

the deep, dark, dusty

attic of a 

university library
