3rd Day of Black History Month: 10-Year-Old's Dilemma in 1959

________________________________________________________________________________________________

In 1959, Willie Mays
hit 34 home runs
and 43 doubles.

He scored 125 runs
and had 104 runs batted in.

He led the National League in stolen bases.

Only four players
in the National League
had a higher batting average.

In 1959, I was a reasonably
devout 10-year-old*
Catholic boy but
I had a dilemma:

Did Willie Mays
sit at God's right hand
(or vice versa)

Footnotes
*When my Uncle became a priest in 1958,
his family begifted him with a brand new car.

I thought that if I became a monk,
my family would give me a Cadillac.

I was a very humble boy
who wanted to proclaim his humility
through a bullhorn.

But if Willie Mays had never existed,
I would have had a lot more girlfriends.

This series continues  here.
