Developing A Necessary Skill ... Fifty-Three Years Before Needed

To succeed as a 
senior citizen,
it behooves
the elder
to have 
a keen sense
of when and where
to take a nap

But that is a skill
this senior citizen
 developed
fifty-four years ago
 
Napping on a railroad track
happened naturally for me
because I had
a nineteen-year-old
bed-rail bambino
whose ecstatic laughter
awoke me
whenever 
the tracks contained
a fast-approaching
commuter train
en route to

      As an image of her husband's friend (Oliverio)
      doing something weird, she would regard the image
      as par for the course.

      As for the "19-year-old bambino"
      Mary McCarthy would be hard-pressed to care
      about the Bambino [Jack's then-girlfriend]
      because it was taken twelve years before
      Jack was to have his last taste of Alcohol
