AT THE
ME TOO
BALL
Irony received
an invitation
to
a fund-raising Ball.
Vanity was her escort.
Irony wore
a Gucci gown
and
high heel sneakers
to
The Me Too Ball
at the Memorial Hall,
With men and women
of note,
in glitter and glam,
plus media
to gather quote
From crumbs
of conversation
or spoken from
the podium.
Vanity sat to the
right of irony.
Ego sat to her left.
She could not tell
them apart.
Laughter sat
across from
Irony.
(The Me Too Ball
coincided with Hollywood's
Me Too Rally.)
Secrecy and Humility
were conspicuously
absent from the Ball
Where
Ten thousand people
sang
in perfect harmony:
I gotta be Me
I gotta be Me
No other person
can I be.
Ten thousand
voices all echoing
–verbatim and robotic–
All repeating
the plea
to be different.
Irony in
her high heel sneakers
danced with
Laughter in
his most
voluminous
voice.
They were thrown
out of the hall,
Exiled from the Ball
but
Vanity and ego
crawled
under the table.
Ego was lassoed
into submission,
unlike
Vanity,
who wore
too many
disguises.
Otherwise
a splendid time
was had by all
at the
Me Too
Ball
(Or so they thought)
.
