Licorice Pizza

Three boys from
Long Island
(in a 1968 Volkswagen Bug)
drove to California

Vivid memories
of the Sunset Strip
included a visit to
something called
LICORICE PIZZA

Our collective joke:
Pizza with no calories
but lots of
Rhythm 'n Blues

The joke was said by
Kevin O'Grady
and our fearless leader
Paul Gretschel

Prior to August, 1968—
O'grady and Oliverio
had never been west
of New Jersey

Our sojourn was Gretschel's
third trip to California

The Volkswagen Bug
was a gift from my parents
