On that day,
I was teaching at
Jefferson HS,
located less than
one mile
from this drug bust
I am certain
my colleagues
discussed the bust
at great length,
fearing the possible
consequences
of teaching
in the ghetto
But
[by design]
I was oblivious to that fear
for the entirety
of my teaching
at Jefferson
[1987-2004]
Luckily for me,
"negative consequences"
were less than
negligible

one dozen "shootings" at schools of that name
but none of them had anything to do
with the school that is
the heart and soul
of Paul's memory.
