JEROME DAVID SALINGER |
Earlier this week,
Oliverio re-read the quote
that nearly
knifed his teaching career
in south-Central Los Angeles
before it began
BECAUSE
he preferred being respected
to being liked

Other than to say
that this page
is the perfect prelude
to a Quincy Jones
tribute page,
Oliverio refers the reader
to the first comment

Because I was awaiting a shipment of "new books" in the mail,
ReplyDeleteI reached for a book by the author of
For Esme, With Love And Squalor
That author is SALINGER and I'll be damned
if I'm re-reading the Holden Caulfield novel
for a tenth time
The "Esme" story was/is destined for
a new 5-star barista at my Starbucks
Hopefully, she will one day read
the paperback edition of "Catcher In The Rye"
for a first time because I can live with
just three copies of that book
If she never reads it because she is too busy
evolving into a 5-star manager of Starbucks,
I'll gladly be the first customer
to fist-bump her in celebration

THUS...I re-read the the first part Franny + Zooey
for the sixth time since 1966...
The 8000 pages of the GodFather of Math trilogy
have made very clear that I am a major exponent
of multiple readings of books OR
repeated listening to favorite songs
The reason this page segues into
a QUINCY JONES tribute has to do
with being 100% convinced that
the first person to welcome
Mr. Jones into the land of Eternal Bliss
will be Michael Jackson
with a choir of one gazillion people
singing Billie Jean
