    Ambrose Bierce is one of the greatest mysteries of American Literature.
    But his "Devil's Dictionary" is more diabolically satirical
    than diabolically evil.

    A viable attempt to tell his story is a novel by CARLOS FUENTES
    entitled The Old Gringo
