I live in a 25-unit complex
and two nights ago,
a bulldog had
a barking spasm
It was audible
from two blocks away
The time was ≈2AM
The storm door was locked
but the wooden door
was wide open
and no human
was visible
in the well-lit apartment
In the absence of bloodshed
or death throes,
virtually no humans
are willing or eager
to call the police
at that hour
A board member
—heavily distressed—
was seen roaming the grounds
with her cell phone
She claimed to not know
if the car
belonging to the apartment's owner
was in our underground
parking lot
Evidently,
the visibly "lettered"
parking spaces
were beyond her comprehension
at that time
So I was told
Therefore,
from his front door
[less than 50 feet from the dog]
Oliverio called 911-emergency
and the police arrived
within thirty seconds
I ultimately escorted them
to the property's perimeter
where they banged loudly
on the apartment's
bedroom window
to no avail
However,
when we returned
to the front door,
the dog's owner was there
and the bulldog
was silenced
He was extremely apologetic
and that wonderful thing
called "Peace and Quiet""
was restored
Naturally,
I called LBPD's
non-emergency number
shortly after
and it was a distress call
from the board member
[not heroic Oliverio]
which the hyper-competent
police officers
had responded to
