The Shadow And The Substance ... And The Answer

The shadow
said to the substance
Without you,
I do not exist
 
The shadow 
left the room
 
Then substance
threw a question
against the wall
 
Not who 
but when
did the first person 
laugh
on planet Earth? 
 
The shadow 
returned 
with a red light
shining overhead:
 
The first laugh 
followed immediately 
after the first tear was shed
on planet Earth.
 
It was a necessary 
counter-measure
and the woman
felt whole
again
