the bigger shock to me
is the doubling in size
of the house
next door

As recently as ten years ago,

on BOTH sides of the street pictured here.
Unlike ours, some of the families were 3-generational
and—once again—it behooves me to acknowledge
the matriarch of 147-76, a dear friend of my Mother:
Anne Messenger cooked a dinner
for two freshly-minted Adult Orphans
in October of 1971
