It Behooves Me To Honor His 92nd Birthday

Spiritual crises were mentioned
frequently in the NINE PAGES
devoted to J.D.Salinger

My first spiritual crisis
—as a 10-year-old in 1959—
had to do with the man
and it was reduced
to a simple question:
Will God sit
at Willie Mays' right hand
or will it be
the other way around
He was born on May 6, 1931


The point is moot
because Willie Mays
has yet to shed his mortal coil
