My father-in-law is a Literature Professor in Orange County.
ReplyDeleteScott Fitzgerald is his favorite American author
but he has never seen this quote before.
That is sad but feasibly true:
DeleteFSF wrote it for the film adaptation
of Erich Maria Remarque's novel
of the same name.
The quote is from the first draft of the script
and, unfortunately, may have been edited
by the time the film was released.
By my standards, I paid a shipload of money
for this Scott Fitzgerald book and will have more
to say about it soon.
Hopefully, I will get to see the film before or after
doing so. It starred Franchot Tone, Robert Taylor,
Margaret Sullavan, and ROBERT YOUNG,
long before he became synonumous
with Father Knows Best
