The italic title of this series
about Harry "Rabbit" Angstrom
brings to mind
Alice in Wonderland
Alice and Harry
do have some things in common
insofar as both characters
embark upon
very strange adventures
But it would be impossible
to imagine
Alice selling Toyotas
Speaking of those cars:
everything you ever
wanted to know about them
is described in
the Rabbit Angstrom Quintology
Some would call that
"product placement"
and a complete list of products
that appear
in John Updike's masterpiece
would make this page
one mile long
So I will list just a few:
Pizza Hut, golf clubs,
Winn Dixie Supermarket, Coca Cola,
Gilbey's Gin, and Honda Motorcycles

In film production, when there is "product placement," sometimes
ReplyDeletethe producer of the product contributes funds to the film company.
If that were true for Rabbit Run, Updike made millions
before a single copy of the book was sold.
You may be right, if so, it is no wonder
Deletethey called Updike a "genius"
