It began as the GODFATHER OF MATH, evolved into the GOODFATHER OF MATH. Now this. Go figure...

Quoting Flaubert (The Book Of Gus #6)

________________________________________________________________________________________________

I am only a literary lizard basking the day away
beneath the great sun of Beauty.

If I were a woman, I wouldn’t want myself for a lover.
A one-night stand, yes; but an intimate relationship, no.

I laugh at everything, even at that which I love the most.

There is no fact, thing, feeling or person over which
I have not blithely run down my clownishness,
like an iron roller imparting sheen to cloth.

The day I stop being indignant, I shall fall flat on my face.

There are moments when I am so tired
that I’m liquefying like an old Camembert.

This bird is not a parrot

All of the quotes
from  Gustave Flaubert
appear in  Flaubert's Parrot,
a Julian Barnes novel.

The next Flaubert page is  here.

The Romantic Poet And The Modern Poet

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Each poet prepared a  candle-lit dinner for the woman in his life.

Both  poets  are  inspired  by  the sparkle  of the evening
and the glow in their lady’s eyes.

Both dinners are commemorated with poetry.

When hearts beat together, the muses listen.

The romantic poet writes his verse on a napkin
and immediately gives it to his lover.

The modern poet scribbles his poem on a Post-it in the pantry.

Tomorrow, he will write a polished draft on his computer
and then e-mail it to his lady.

Imagine Spray-Painting The Long Side Of A Truck...

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Then someone buys the painting for $690,000

That actually  happened in Paris this week.

However, that amount includes the auctioneer's fee.

The rest of the moolah goes to  Banksy,
an artist who has never been seen in public
but long may he (or she) live!

The next GoFather
Banksy page

I cannot go
When blocked

I need to know
Simple things
He says no

The mime is dressed
Like a red toro
With mood to match.

An alternate batch
of words he'll hatch.

Watch...

With forked eyes
there is surprise

Beyond spatula nose
a tree grows

Knotted wood horns–
the red frame scorns

the sad telephone pole
wants a bigger role:
wishing for thrills
of  penetrating
unseen nostrils

......................A Simon and Garfunkel Song For Carol......................

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Someone told me
It's all happening

I do believe it, I do believe it's true.
It's a light and tumble journey
From the East Side to the park.

Just a fine and fancy ramble to the zoo.
but you can take the cross-town bus
If it's raining or it's cold.
And the animals will
love it if you do.

Let it be told:
An animal activist is she.
The evidence:
Exhibit A is me.

Do the hyperlinky thing

I refuse to touch up the white spots

out of fear that Andy's ghost
will never visit me again!

NET-Speak (The Book Of Gus #5)

________________________________________________________________________________________________

© Oliverio
The text is from
Julian Barnes

The subject of the biography
is Gustave Flaubert

Our BOOK OF GUS
 continues  here.

With no great injury to logic,
you could define a net as

A collection of holes
tied together
with string.

You can do the same
with a biography:

A trawling net fills,
then the biographer
hauls it in, sorts,
throws back,
stores, fillets
and sells.

Mystification is simple.
Clarity is the hardest
thing of all.

We can say all
we want about Him.
But if we don't offer Him
our hands, they can do
serious harm....Unless
we use those hands
to reach out to each
other, regardless

about Him

One needn’t

know poetry,

it was loving it

that was important.

The King's Java Trail
It was a gloomy morning
It was an eye patch morning
But I am never in mourning
I am never in gloom

When the words of Flaubert
Enter the room:

There is not
a particle of life
which does not bear
poetry within it.

You can call me Beady Eye
(Or Sarcastic Sally)

I will now double both
the space and the tally:

The whole dream of democracy is to raise

the proletariat to the level of stupidity

attained by the bourgeoisie.
