    Thanks to you, I read more Updike books than humans should be
    allowed to read. That included The Poorhouse Fair,
    an extraordinary first novel (and less than 140 pages).

    I highlighted this quote which, by all rights, should be
    within quotation marks because the words are spoken
    by one of the old folks living in the Poorhouse.

      but they can be a pain in the ass to include
